The concert features soloists from the band (John Monroe, trombone; John Taylor, tuba; and Ken Walter, trumpet) playing Floyd Werle's "Concertino for Three Brass and Band", plus Paul Hindemith's "March from Symphonic Metamorphoses", James Barnes' "Fantasy Variations on a Theme" by Nicolo Paganini, Philip Spark's "Dance Movements", Brant Karrick's spectacular "Mambo Furioso", and Russel Bennet's arrangement of selections from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess". Here's what Floyd Werle had to say after attending Monday's dress rehearsal: "Monday night was one of the truly great events I've experienced since I became a Californian. The group sounded splendid and I know the concert will go fine. Your reading and performance of the Concertino ranks right up there with the original USAF Band rendition in '66. Do keep me posted on future programs; I would love to attend." The concert starts at 1 pm (a little earlier than usual) at the Smith Center on Ohlone College (43600 Mission Blvd., Fremont). Tickets are $15 for Adults, $10 Seniors and students, $8 for youth under 12. More Information regarding tickets is available on line through www.smithcenterpresents.com . If you are in the area come on out and here this great band. Sincerely, John Monroe ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Thu, 06 Mar 2008 22:49:10 -0700 From: Earl Needham Subject: Re: [Trombone-l] turned corner To: trombone-l@samford.edu Message-ID: <20080307055353.C7BBA55BB3D@spamcuda3.samford.edu> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed At 08:52 3/5/2008, Joe L. And they drink it like water. They actually will drink Absolut, but they call it 'the cheap stuff'. And don't even think about making a Vodka mixer (White Russian, anyone?) in front of a Russian! They will laugh you right out of the room. (I told them I was mixing it to lube up my slide, and that seemed to work.) Polne piesdietz! James====================== James N.
