I want to if it is feasible to make a Latin band horn out of this--0.525 slide, since the original was a 0.510/0.530 dual bore press fit. I mic'd the several dimensions from the handslide input point to the tuning slide output end ferrule. All dimensions (gooseneck OD in- 0.595/out- 0.645, main tuning slide ferrule input- 0.670 and main tuning slide output-0.820 ) are LARGER than a modern King 4B EXCEPT the tuning slide output ferrule/'bell tail OD' (0.882 on the 4B; 0.870 on my bell). Do any of you have any connections that can help me determine the various 'tuning slide output ferrule diameters' for the various Tempo/Cleveland/King[3B+] 0.525" horns? I think you see where I am going--finding the right model main brace receiver, gooseneck, main tuning slide ass'y that would allow me to make a 0.525" bore horn with this bell. I'd be most receptive to design thoughts from our tech colleagues on the List. Thanks in advance for anything you can add! I'm wondering if anyone has/knows where to get some info on this stuff. In particular, I. Mitsuoka, composer of Two Moments for trombone solo, and is anyone familiar with the book Chinese Music for Trombone? Apparently the horn teacher here picked it up in China a few years ago. Some of the stuff is decent, especially The Yellow Crane Pavilion by Luo Bin. I have googled and googled without any definitive success on both of these names. ANy help is appreciated. There is another one, seemingly arranged by or for George Roberts, which I like much better. It's fairly short and it's a crowd-pleaser. Out of print as far as I know. David Hoffman (trumpet soloist with Ray Charles' big band) wrote a very nice arrangement of Beatrice with improv sections for bass bone and trumpet. http://www.davidhoffmanjazz.com/ Rob McConnell has an arrangement of Bye Bye Blue which does not contain any "trigger notes" but plays much better on bass bone than tenor bone. Besides those, does this request have to be WRITTEN out for Bass Trb? Couldn't any solo chart work? There's a wonderful chart for Trumpet solo called "I remember Clifford". Ballad style. The solo is for Trumpet or Flugel. The other 3 Trumpet parts are written in unison. I've done this chart as a duet. Trumpet takes the normal solo part, Bass Trb plays the accomp Trumpet parts (unison-writing) an octave lower, some parts sound OK two octaves lower too. Nice change of pace. Most solo ballads that are scored in the fl?gelhorn range are good for bass trombone providing that the melody does not clash with the lower harmony parts. Also Sinatra style (baritone voice) charts transcribe well for bass 'bone. In this vein, George Roberts' music-minus-one albums "Big Band Ballads" and "Unsung Hero" are excellent play-alongs. Shameful reminder of my own charts for solo bass 'bone and big band: "Mr. Nice Guy" (slow ballad) (also with brass and concert band backing). "Veludo Negra" (medium bossa). I've always thought that it would fit nicely on the bass. I also second what Keith had said earlier about Adrians charts. They are in the "middle" range for a bass trb, and they sound very nice. He was a very fine arranger and composer and did a lot of work in TV in the 50s and 60s in Hollywood. Of course, he used the greatest LA players of the time on his stuff. This record (or CD) is a classic. I'm not sure why he decided to use a "nom de plume", instead of his real name, but he probably had some contractual problems with other record labels or something of the sort. Enjoy! That's a new one on me, Bill. Why would he write under the name of an already well established arranger/composer.
