They won't get the music till just before the show opens, and being a "newbie" player, I'd like to start learning the part ASAP. Does anybody know where I might find the trombone part(s) for that show? Feel free to reply off-list. Thanks! -Alan Irwin _________________________________________________________________ Find what you need at prices youâll love. I often find that the hand slides of trombones are longer than they need to be, for the inner slide tubes. Put only one inner tube into the hand slide and see if thereâs any extra outer tubing, before the inner slide tube reaches the joints of the slide tubes and crook. Most of the trombones that I work on have such out of wack slides that cutting off a bit of the outer slide tube, at the crook end, is just the beginning of all of the adjustments that need to be made, in order to get the slide tubes dent-free, straight, polished, parallel and aligned. Perhaps your slide needs other work, as well. And perhaps your outer slide is long enough to cut a bit of otherwise unused tubing off of the hand slide. Ask your repairperson about it. I had a thought...you might be able to put it in a triple trumpet gig bag if the inside dividers can be removed and if your Flugabone is no longer than a standard Bb trumpet. There are lots of them available cheap if one will work. Just a thought. I have lost track of how many this makes for him, but it's nice to see that he still has the spirit of a twelve-year-old. As a high school student growing up in McPherson, Kansas, Irv Wagner was an All-State offensive tackle in football. He had great speed for a big guy, and led the way for the running backs on end-around sweeps. Irv appeared with his spoon act on Ted Mack's Original Amatuer Hour, a popular TV show in its day. He made the finals. Later on, he completed his graduate degrees in trombone with Emory Remington. (I guess it was not possible to major in spoons at Eastman, but the spoon world's loss is our gain.) One year ago, I heard his OU Trombone Choir at a convention in San Antonio, and they sounded better than ever. It's great to know that good things are still happening in Norman. Jazz Invitational Festival evening concert on March 3. Anyone from up in that area probably knows more about the exact location and times than I do at this point. All I know is that they are picking me up from the Seattle airport early Saturday morning and taking me back to the airport on Sunday. What happens in between is up to them!! I know that I will be giving a masterclass/clinic on brass/instrumental stuff in the morning and one on improvisation in the afternoon and then playing with the band that night. That's a big trombone weekend around Seattle. Trombonology is happening at the University of Washington [Mike Davis and Ralph Sauer are featured there!!]. I was going to try to make it out there Sunday morning for a minute before my flight leaves. Come out and say hi if you know you'll be around!! Should be a fun hang!!
