Bill Evans, Danny Richmond, just to mention a few players on the album. There is also he and Pepper Adams on Pepper Knepper Quintet that has some nice bebop playing and there is Jimmy Knepper w/Clifford Jordon on a thing called Dream Dancing. I have those in my collection. If you aren't familiar with Roy Williams, locate Classic Concert with the Alex Welsh Band, Williams does an unbelievable solo on Tangerine, takes a cadenza on the tune and then repeats it live as an encore. I have heard him on some rather recent recordings with one of the Allred's that is also a gas!. I also have an album called Cunningbird that is good and a Jimmy Knepper Sextet disc called Tell Me. Of course the Mingus stuff that he is on is great. Check out Ah-um, and Tonight at Noon. There is a new Mingus Big band disc called Tonight at Noon as well. Get the re-issue that actually has Mingus on it. Knepper plays Invisible lady, and it is great. I have been blessed to get to spend a good deal of time with Mr. K. over the last few years. Like most I am in awe of him for his part in one of the finest brass sections that the world will ever know. However, the most inspiring part is not what he did, but why he did it. His concepts of teamwork, playing well so that you and your peers inspire each other to play better, and his unrelenting pursuit of excellence continually inspire me in what I do. To say that integrity beams from the man would be an understatement. He worked hard not only for himself, but for the good those around him as well. My $00.2, Michael Michael D. Ben Van Dijk And I must mention two younger gentlemen who seem to be very inspiring in their teaching and playing: Nitzan Haroz -Principal tbn, Philadelphia Orchestra Micha Davis - Bass trombonist, Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra Micha can be heared on a CD with Ram Oren: Angel Trumpets and Devil Trombones A new recording by him is to be released soon on an educational project coming soon. If you are interested in applying for the Rotterdam Conservatory, a school with the most active trombone program of any school in the region, and find lots of information about the schools program and the class activities, please refer to the following links: www.tromboneclassrotterdam.com www.codarts.nl Faculty staff members are: George Wiegel, Pierre Volder and Jorgen van Reijen for tenor-trombone and Ben van Dijk for bass-trombone. The Jazz department has Bart van Lier and Ilja Reijngoud as inspiring teachers. Auditions for the Rotterdam Conservatory Trombone Studio generally occur during the months of May and June. You may always contact me directly at ben@basstrombone.nl or just visit my website to read more about myself: www.basstrombone.nl I hope to hear from you. _________________ Greetings, Ben van Dijk Rotterdam Philharmonic Rotterdam Conservatory Royal Northern College of Music Manchester ben@basstrombone.nl www.basstrombone.nl ------------------------------ Message: 27 Date: Sun, 04 Feb 2007 07:18:01 -0500 From: Art Triggs Subject: Re: [Trombone-l] Trombone inspirations Cc: trombone-l@server5.samford.edu Message-ID: <45C5CEF9.3080909@awtriggs.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Try here..... http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:38q8g4ettvnz Charles Perron wrote: > A question about Phil Wilson... > > I've heard a few recordings of him, and liked what I heard.
