Shuma (???) 2. Rachel (Nestico) 3. Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man (Arr. C. Gallaher) - more of a solo chart We've been playing "Rachel" the last couple of the weeks in the big band I rehearse with on Tuesdays and it's a got a really cool, exposed bass trombone throughout. It is one of those "oxygen bottle" charts (long extended low notes) but I still love it. Nestico rules. I can't think of a "bad" Nestico chart and I've played many of them. Some of his charts have really nice 4th parts. I've played "Wave" also. It's a good chart, but it seems high in spots for a bass trombone feature. Try and get "Rachel" if you can Bill, as I think you'd really like it. "Can't Help.." is more in line with your e-mail. David Oliver Broomfield, Colorado USA Bass Trombone, Swing Inc. P.S. I'm also re-learning bass guitar fingering, to sometimes help out there. I've had 2 bass guitars for years (Rickenbacker and Hagstrom) and just bought a 3rd - though I don't think I'll ever have as many bass guitars as I have trombones... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Redgate" To: "Post to Trombone List" Sent: Saturday, February 18, 2006 2:21 PM Subject: [Trombone-l] Fantasy Big Band Bass Bone Feature CD > Revered List Types; > > > I was thinking the other day - so you'll have to forgive me..... > > > I was wondering - "What would the quintessential Big Band Bass Bone > Feature Album have on it?" There were features written for George Roberts and the Kenton band, but only a handful were commercially recorded. On quasi-bootleg CD, I have "Tenderly" and "Desiderata," both arranged by (I believe) Bill Russo. Note that "Desiderata" stayed in the book for some years, and was also recorded by Kenny Shroyer 10-20 years later; I think it's the same chart. But they sound great. How can one order a copy?
