Seems to me the King instruments, of all trombones would be the most difficult to fake. The lead pipe is a "two-piece" and the slide crook is mounted in a unique way onto the outside slide. Also, one of the reasons I play a King so much of the time is the general build quality is so great. Look at the bell. . .usually no corrosive bleed, etc. I'd tend to think that a horn that plays well and looks really like it is a King probably IS a King. Now I'd be more careful about any other maker like Bach, Conn, Geten, Olds. Those might have been copied back in the day when that would be profitable. Isn't it just possible, that King called this model the "Sonorus" model for a while. . .Perhaps one of our esteemed horn historians. . . . I had a 4B from 1976, and my friend has one from 1974. Both were called "Sonorous". Incidentally, I had a 5B from the same period and it was called "Symphony". The inscription presented makes me wonder if this horn had a bell transplant, and the engraver didn't know (or couldn't read) what was there originally. Regardless, if it plays well, it's good. But what money is there in forging a King 4B? So so so many people advertise with ignorance of what they are selling, ignorance of what the metals are, e.g. calling brass "gold", mislabelling parts, calling everything "vintage" and/or "rare", & normally very poor grammar, punctuations, & spelling. Yours was a joy to read. Tom (a multi Bach owner). --- Carl Musholt wrote: > Hello list! I'm selling a Bach bass trombone on > ebay. Item # is > 3772615269.
