Ed Dix. I found Mr. Brookmeyer's response interesting and hope you do, too. Here, then, is his reply to my inquiry regarding his equipment: ================ Wayne -- Ed Dix said there was some curiosity about my horns -- in 1979 Larry Minik remachined a Conn for me and a year later did the same with a slighter smaller bore (which I don't use much) -- I THINK it's a 6H but I am trombone ignorant so that's the story. I am meeting with Steve Shires soon and he may build a horn for me -- since Minik died, I need a live hornmaker. Hope you guys are snowless and sweating -- we have been COLD back here. all best -- Bob Brookmeyer -- ========================= Dr. J. It has enough mass to eliminate the need for a tone enhancer. Comments from my friends who have purchased them are mainly, "I can't believe how much more focused my tone is", and what a great dark tone I get". You can get them from Woodwind and Brasswind. For more info, contact Mike Suter. He has a whole page giving complete details about his mouthpieces. With three different cups and four different rims, you can mix and match and come up with a winner. Maybe Mike can put the details of his mouthpieces on this list to make it easier for all. Thanks to the many responses I = have received. I experimented last night with a makeshift enhancer of = my own design and was quite disappointed in the results. I had a = surplus of heavyweight soldering wire which was fairly easy to coil = around the cup and form a tight bond. My sound with the extra weight on = the mouthpiece was certainly more focused but it also sounded awful. = Most of the notes I played had a distinct crack to them--quite different = than what I wanted. Several guys who wrote me said the enhancer would = not give me a darker tone and they were correct. "Your mileage may = vary." Gabe Langfur suggested that a counterweight for my tuning slide would = get me closer to what I am seeking and Steve Shires agreed, so I ordered = one. Once I've had the opportunity to test it, I will relay my = findings, which hopefully will be happy ones. Thanks to Gabe and Steve. In addition, other list-related concerns have been expressed, and it was discovered that with the switch to the new software last July, the welcome/guidelines message was deleted. This has been remedied, and for reference, is included with this e-mail. TROMBONE-L Guidelines These will hopefully make you participation with Trombone-L rewarding and pleasant. Thank you for you cooperation! TROMBONE-L GUIDELINES 1. Purpose of the List: The focus of the list is the trombone and related aspects. Please keep posts on topic.
