I am seriously looking for a dbl. trigger bass. I could kick myself for selling a practically new Olds dbl. bass 15 years ago... I am primarily a euphonium player, and am loyal to Besson. I have played on several of the new horns out there, but being a woman, my hand is too small and I don't have the strength to use Thayer valves. I also want an open wrap. I HAVE played on a Sovereign tenor and found it to be extremely responsive and would like to know how you feel. I've started playing bass trombone again in a group (am looking to sell a Conn 71H) and want a new horn. You can respond to me personally to avoid cluttering the list if you wish. In the final pic at the botton of the page, showing the end of the slide, there's a bump that looks suspiciouly like a spitvalve ... although with a friction fit I guess you could take the horn apart quickly and dump the water by inverting the slide. Pete, maybe it was the particular horn I played then - the slide on it was really not very good. Trombones can vary a lot within the same make - especially Bach! Perhaps it was also suffering from being a band instrument? But I did like the way the valves played. Each to his/her own. Speaking of made in England trombones, have you tried one of the Raph custom trombones? What are they like? There is a school of thought that moisture normally expelled through the spit valve is basically lubricant for/from the slide itself. I've seen several players through the years remove outer slide and redirect this lubricant back on to the slide. It certainly does work in a pinch, anyway. The main thing is that my 12 - year- old Stephen was hospitalized for a serious infection and has to remain in hospital for a rather long time. I have recently attacked the basics of playing again and I have vowed never to let myself go again. I have noticed that my lip slurs all have "clicks" in between partials and I have a very difficult time playing quick slurs throughout the register. I blame myself of course, especially when I notice tons of movement in my embouchure even in simple excercizes. It is time for me to fix all of this and fast! I need valve casings for a Bach 50B3L. This horn was dismantled a few years ago and the valves were scrapped because they contained the serial numbers. I acquired the parts and reassembled it, now I need the valves. I am doing a custom configuration but I still need the F and D valves that originally came with this model. I have the guts to the old valves but the preferred method would be to replace valve for valve. SO... if you know anyone who has extra valves left over after a Thayer conversion, for example... I've also noticed many college students who did something like this, except that the trombone itself was always angled away from their faces (how one plays like this is not clear to me...). So my question here is, does anyone know if playing with the head turned to the right slightly as some pros do has any potential pitfuls? I've studied Alexander Tech, so the idea of anything that puts the body out of alignment even slightly, like turning the head, makes me cringe. But I can see the obvious benefits to the the right arm. Is there a trade-off? Mr. Yeo, perhaps you could "jump in" on this one since you've previously written that you do this.
